"Michelle Todd stood out for her lively stage presence, highly expressive face and delightful singing"
THE TIMES (LONDON)

Hello and Welcome to my website!

Summertime finds me taking a short break from performing while I prepare new repertoire for the 09/10 season starting in September. This next season includes some really diverse projects starting with a short workshop in August with Ensemble Resonance and  composer Aaron Gervais to prepare the world premiere of a new commission. I am also rehearsing  a completely new programme for orchestra. All details about this and other concerts will be added to the news pages in the upcoming weeks as details are finalised.
I will be singing in an outdoor concert on August 2nd as part of the Parkland Summer Concerts, so fingers crossed that the weather complies.

The recent spring concerts with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra at the Epcor Centre were a real highlight and I was especially pleased at the audience reaction to the world premiere of my new Arabian- inspired arrangement of Nella Fantasia for voice and orchestra, Salaam Fantasia. The orchestra really transported us to the Middle East with their gorgeous playing. The St George's Day concert in UK was a lot of fun for both me and the audience. I think we all raised the roof when we reached the " Last Night of the Proms" finale. Great hats, voices and flag waving fun!

In the meantime, if you are travelling in Alberta Canada, and visiting the Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, you can experience a new high definition video called "Wildness Revealed" which surrounds the audience with stunning images of that beautiful environment and wildlife. My voice was used in the soundtrack and I was intrigued to hear how the various instruments and voice were mixed and transformed to complement the breathtaking images.

One of the world's most prestigious music publishing houses- Peters Editions- has recently published a set of Four Theatre Songs for soprano by the British composer Stephan McNeff, texts by playwrite Edward Bond. I performed the world premiere of these songs many years ago in London and I am delighted that they are now available. I highly recommend any classical singer looking for new repertoire to feature these songs in their concert programmes.

Thank you all for your support and emails last season. It was certainly a year of wonderfully diverse engagements! From  the nuances of Noel Coward's witty songs, or a recital of 18th century American songs in Handel's music room to singing Oscar -winning songs with the Scarborough Spa Orchestra in "Reel Music", I enjoyed every minute. As requested I've added some more audio samples on the website and new photos including a lovely shot taken with war veterans after a special private performance in November. AND...thanks to your support my versions of Ave Maria by Mascagni and Caccini continue to stay in the top three places in their respective itunes charts!

Some exciting news came from the Gospel Music Awards committee in Canada in October when  my cd Grace Notes was nominated in the Best Classical/Traditional category of the Covenant Awards. Grace Notes is now on sale throughout the UK, Ireland, and in Canada. I was thrilled when it received airplay on BBC radio and most recently on CKUA.You can listen to samples and purchase it on my recordings page. It is also available on itunes, amazon.com and cdbaby.com.

Finally, in answer to an email query- I enjoy the singing styles of many sopranos. I am constantly inspired and intrigued by the work of Renee Fleming, Dawn Upshaw, Barbara Bonney, Patricia Petibon, Kathleen Battle, Sumi Jo, Sissel, Sarah Brightman, Katherine Jenkins and Celtic Woman. Also the versatility of Bryn Terfel and Il Divo.

Have a wonderful summer.
Hope you visit me again soon.
